The words on the home page. Edit them here: the page reads this file when it loads.

The heading at the top is the name. Blank lines separate paragraphs. Italics,
bold and links work the usual way, and straight quotes and apostrophes come out
curly. A list can come right after the line that introduces it, and the two
become a drop-down; as many open as fit on the screen. A list of nothing but
links becomes the row of links. Everything after a line of three dashes is set
  small, as a footnote.

# Alexander Chin

Hello! I'm Alexander. I'm broadly interested in reinforcement learning, the philosophy of mind, and technical AI alignment, but you can just as often find me buried in a book about poetry, crow behavior, philosophy of physics, complexity theory, or zen buddhism.

In my free time, I [read](https://hamilchin.github.io/theviewfromafar/links/Bookshelf.html), [write](https://hamilchin.github.io/theviewfromafar/), listen to [music](https://open.spotify.com/user/0katx9se0pyjjoirt3qbyrm09?si=b2ac5c05743e4ea5). Feel free to reach out via email for any reason if you want to chat!

Currently, I'm:
- Living in SF
- Thinking about what alignment techniques we might need to address reward hacking during RL
- Working at Tesla training real-time computer-use agents

In the future, I'd like to:
- Write a book about the philosophy of mind
- Get much better at DJing
- Fix my sleep schedule

In the past, I've:
- worked on Edtech at Synthesis
- done research on model-based reinforcement learning
- dropped out of high school
- Taught 3 great classes at UW: CSE 122 and 143, and CSE 490: *Big Ideas in AI*.
- lead UW's architecture appreciation club
- spent a summer trying to figure out the 'hard problem' of consciousness
